The University of Sheffield offers competitive scholarships worth £10,000 towards the tuition fee for undergraduate programs starting in September 2024. These scholarships are specifically available to new international undergraduate students who meet the eligibility criteria. To qualify, you must have either completed or currently be enrolled in an International Baccalaureate Diploma program and have received an offer to study at the University of Sheffield
To be eligible for the International Baccalaureate Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2024, you must meet the following criteria:
1. You must be currently studying for or hold the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
2. You must have received an offer to study a full-time or part-time undergraduate degree or foundation degree program at the University of Sheffield, starting in September 2024. Please note that all undergraduate degree courses are eligible for the scholarship, except Medicine (A100/A101) and Dentistry (A200).
3. Your degree or foundation program must be scheduled to commence at the University of Sheffield in September 2024.
4. You must have received an offer for a course that will be studied in full at the University of Sheffield. Degree programs that are split between the University of Sheffield and a partner institution are not eligible for the scholarship.
5. For tuition fee purposes, you must be self-funded and eligible to pay the overseas tuition fee.
6. You must not be a sponsored student*.
7. You must enter a degree program at the University of Sheffield in program year 1 or 2.
8. Please note that all MArch programs are considered as postgraduate taught programs and are not eligible for any undergraduate scholarships.
9. The University of Sheffield reserves the right to review and change scholarship provision.
Applications for the International Baccalaureate Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2024 are now closed. The deadline to apply was Monday, April 22, 2024, at 1pm (UK time) Selection
The selection process for the scholarship is competitive, and not all applications will be successful. A panel of senior staff members will review the applications and consider the following criteria:
1. The applicant has provided examples of achievements that demonstrate excellence and initiative in educational, voluntary, or extra-curricular areas.
2. The applicant has explained how these achievements relate to the course they have applied for at the University of Sheffield and how it connects to their future ambitions.
3. The applicant has a strong academic profile.
If you are selected for the International Baccalaureate Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2024, the following conditions apply:
1. You must begin your studies at the University of Sheffield in September 2024.
2. The scholarship is limited to one award per person.
3. The scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any of the following scholarships: International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2024, GEMS International Merit Scholarship 2024, NCUK Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2024, International School of Choueifat Merit Scholarship 2024, DPS Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2024, International Undergraduate Scholarship 2024, NCUK Undergraduate Scholarship 2024.
4. However, the scholarship can be awarded in conjunction with any other scholarships available from the Department or Faculty you will be studying in, provided you do not become a sponsored student*. Please check the funding calculator to see if any scholarships are available from your Department/Faculty.
Note: *Sponsored students are those who are receiving financial support from an external organization or government.The scholarship cannot be awarded if you receive any funding from an external sponsor, except for a loan that needs to be repaid in full.
If you are selected for a merit scholarship, you will receive the award in your first year of study, subject to meeting the eligibility and award criteria. The scholarship will also be available in subsequent academic years as long as you score 60% or above (wmg) and earn a minimum of 120 credits in the previous academic year.
Applicants for Medicine (A100/ A101) and Dentistry (A200) are not eligible to apply for this scholarship, nor are students studying at the University on a non-USIC Foundation year.
The merit scholarship cannot be used during years in industry or any mandatory or optional years abroad as part of your degree.
If you are selected for a merit scholarship but fail to meet the conditions of your course offer, you will no longer be eligible to receive the award.
If you change your degree program and start again at level 1 of a new program , you may lose your scholarship.
However, if you transfer to a concurrent academic year within the same degree program, such as from year 1 BA English to year 2 BA English literature and Language, you may still be eligible for the merit scholarship
. merit scholarship can be provided for a maximum of 4 academic years, excluding years in industry or years abroad.
The scholarship will only be applied as a discount on tuition fees; there is no cash alternative.
The decision of the scholarship panel is final, and no appeals will be considered.
The University makes all decisions in good faith. If a scholarship is awarded based on predicted grades, but you do not achieve those grades and are still admitted to the University, the University may revoke the scholarship.
If you are selected for a merit scholarship and subsequently join the University through clearing, you will no longer be eligible for the award.
You cannot defer this scholarship to a later year of entry. If you defer your entry, you forfeit the scholarship.
The scholarship cannot be used during any intercalating years of study.
Part-time students will receive a proportionate value of the scholarship over the duration of a full-time academic year.
If you are offered the scholarship, you must confirm acceptance and firm your offer by a specific date.
* A sponsored student receives refers to someone who enough funds to cover the original tuition fee set by the University, excluding any scholarships, discounts, or rewards.Governmental organizations - whether international, national, or regional - as well as research councils, charities, private enterprises, or any similar organizations.
